Sports Physiotherapy Degrees, Courses and Programs

Specialist postgraduate study for physiotherapists (physical therapists) working with athletes and active people.

What is sports physiotherapy?

Sports physiotherapy (called sports physical therapy in North America) is a specialism within physiotherapy. Programs are mostly postgraduate certificates, diplomas and master’s degrees designed for people who are already qualified and registered physiotherapists, and they cover assessment, rehabilitation and return-to-play for sporting injuries.

Becoming a physiotherapist requires an accredited entry-level qualification and registration with the national regulator. A sports-related course on its own does not provide that. Some programs listed under neighbouring titles, such as sports therapy or rehabilitation, have a different scope and are labelled accordingly.

Each listing states the intended audience, whether current professional registration is required, and links to the regulator’s requirements where we have found them.

Typical topics: Musculoskeletal assessment, Rehabilitation and return to play, Manual therapy, Pitch-side care, Load management, Evidence-based practice.

Also called: Sports physical therapy, Sports and exercise physiotherapy, Sportphysiotherapie, Kinésithérapie du sport. These names lead to this one page.

From study to professional practice

Physiotherapy is a regulated profession. Specialist sports courses usually require registration as a physiotherapist as an entry condition.

A generic fitness course does not qualify someone as a physiotherapist.

Each program below states its intended audience, whether prior professional registration is required, and links to current official requirements where we found them.

A sample of what verified programs in this subject say. Requirements differ by program, country and intake.

Results are listed alphabetically. There is no price ranking: prices in different currencies and bases (per week, per camp, per term, per year) are not comparable. Missing details (tuition, admissions, accommodation) never remove a verified listing. Training programs closed to the public are shown only when you ask for them. Online programs are never counted as physically located in a state or city. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change recognition status, verification or order.
